Lisa (Sweazey) Topoleski is a much loved native “Lansing-ite", a 1985 graduate of Lansing High School who returned to her roots
many years ago after traveling the world for education and adventure. Since her return to upstate New York, Lisa
engrossed herself in our community. She has positively impacted the lives of
hundreds of children during her 15 plus years as a middle school teacher in
both South Seneca and the Lansing Central School District. As many children have said, “Mrs. T is the
BEST TEACHER EVER!” First and foremost
though, Lisa is an adored wife, a mother to three beautiful young girls who are
her heart and soul, a devoted daughter, a loving family member and a truly special friend to so many in our community.
It was a
shock to all of us when we learned that Lisa – an active, physically fit,
smiling, busy mom and teacher -- had suffered a seizure on the evening of May 6th,
2012. Unfortunately, this seizure was
the first of what was to be an avalanche of devastating events. The bottom line is Lisa has been diagnosed
with brain cancer. The exact terms are
large and hard to pronounce, but the reality is that she is fighting for her
life every second of every minute of every day.
Lisa is a fighter, her spirit is
strong and the love that surrounds her is astonishing.
Lisa has
been hospitalized since that initial seizure: first at Cayuga Medical Center in
Ithaca, next at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, PA and currently she is
receiving treatment from world renowned doctors and staff at the Johns Hopkins
Medical Institute in Baltimore, MD.
Lisa’s condition remains critical.
